Weekend with Tim Feldmann

  • The Shala of Pittsburgh Ashtanga Yoga (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Tim Feldmann is the director of Miami Life Center, the yoga shala he founded with his wife Kino MacGregor. He was set on the yoga path by his first teacher Lino Miele and is Authorized to teach directly by the founder of the Ashtanga Yoga Method, Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, and his grandson, R. Sharath Jois. A practitioner of the Advanced A series Tim is dedicated to Ashtanga Yoga's traditional method."The body is the way to our spirit, to a truer Self. That's what asana is for”. A near fatal falling accident in 1992 led Tim on the yogic path. His teaching integrates extensive studies of F.M. Alexander Technique and sitting meditation with 20 years of experience as a professional dancer and an internationally acclaimed choreographer. His in-depth knowledge of functional anatomy as well as the idiosyncratic body and mind in stillness and in motion creates the platform upon which his solid understanding of the Ashtanga method rests. Tim's humorous, straight forward yet profound teaching style makes him a cherished teacher, traveling extensively throughout Asia, Australia, Europe and the Americas.

Please email us at info@theshalapittsburgh.com to register for the whole weekend at this discounted price (you must also create an account through MBO with credit card so we can process the charge).

Building Strength in the Primary Series

  • The Shala of Pittsburgh Ashtanga Yoga (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

w/Lori Brandt

The Primary Series poses many opportunities to build strength within the practice. With a consistent practice, you can become strong and agile by taking advantage of the sun salutations, the leg work in the standing and seated postures, and utilizing the transitions and vinyasas to work your core. It is easy to gloss over these strength opportunities due to habitual routines, fatigue, and the path of least resistance. This workshop will bring awareness to these strengthening opportunities, motivate you to not give in to the path of least resistance, and maximize your potential all while continuing your primary series practice.

Investment: $30

Join Lori Brandt for a FREE class on Essential Oil basics!

Did you know that the average person applies 300 chemicals to their body every single day, and 80 of those chemicals are before breakfast?  Some of the biggest pollutants in our homes are from fabric softener, dryer sheets, air fresheners, and candles.   Health and safety data exists for only 15% of all the chemicals in products we use in our home!

Laura has come to firmly believe that Essential Oils are a better way.  They can be used for and replace cleaning supplies, personal care products, and more.  But it is important to use oils that are PURE, from plants that are grown organically and pesticide free, then properly distilled at the right temperature and without solvents.

Essential oils have enhanced lives for thousands of years, offering a variety of benefits from cosmetic and dietary purposes to spiritual and religious use.  Extracted through careful steam distillation, resin tapping, and cold pressing, the purest essential oils are far more powerful than the botanicals from which they come.

Join Lori for the FREE workshop on Essential Oils!  There will be freebies/giveaways as well!  Please reserve your space online!  These workshops will recur regularly so check back and sign up if you can't make this one!

Medicine is not one size fits all  -- come learn about Ayurveda with Kerry Harling!

Do you feel like your life is a struggle?  Do you drink coffee in the morning to get your day started?  Do you work through lunch?  Do you crave sweets, caffeine, chips, bread, or a nap in the afternoon?  Have you tried losing weight in the past 3 years and just given up?  Do you tend to have bouts of worry, anxiety, and depression?  Do you have difficulty remembering things?  Do you finish your day feeling like you were hit by a bus?  Do you wake up tired without the motivation to get up and go?

Ayurveda is a holistic system of medicine that has been practiced in India for over 5,000 years.  Spreading to the West as a “sister science” of Yoga, it offers tremendous insight into how we can live healthier, more balanced lives. Through understanding our connectedness to Nature, Ayurveda sees each person as a unique combination of the 5 elements – ether, air, fire, water, and earth. These elements come together in different ways to form different body types, personality traits, and tendencies for specific diseases.

In this workshop, we will discuss how to understand your constitution, and how this information can help you to find your unique state of balanced health. We will discuss how to use food as “medicine,” as well how to improve digestion and increase immunity through simple Ayurvedic recipes and remedies.

Learn simple techniques of Ayurveda specifically for you...to support health and vitality!

Do you struggle with Chaturanga Dandasana?  If your answer is yes or no, then this workshop is most definitely for YOU.  There are 60+ chaturangas in the Primary Series of Ashtanga Yoga.  Additionally, chaturanga is practiced regularly in most vinyasa flow classes.  This incredibly challenging and highly misunderstood asana if done incorrectly can lead to injury and inappropriate tightness over time.  Join Laura for this educational workshop on Chaturanga.  She will break down the anatomy of muscles involved in this simple yet complicated asana, analyze correct technique and approach to the asana, teach you how to find the appropriate muscle activation needed for a strong, stable chaturanga, teach modifications that will help you learn how to find this muscle activation, AND she will break down every student's chaturanga in the class and provide personal instruction where needed.  Hence, class is limited to 15 students.  Don't miss it!

Investment:  Pre-registration $35, Walk-In $40

Join Lori Brandt for a FREE class on Essential Oil basics!

Did you know that the average person applies 300 chemicals to their body every single day, and 80 of those chemicals are before breakfast?  Some of the biggest pollutants in our homes are from fabric softener, dryer sheets, air fresheners, and candles.   Health and safety data exists for only 15% of all the chemicals in products we use in our home!

Lori has come to firmly believe that Essential Oils are a better way.

Deconstruction Before Reconstruction

Intended for students with a daily practice.  We go through phases in our practice.  In the beginning it feels good, and we feel good for doing the practice.  But as you get deeper into your practice the honeymoon phase ends as you start to uncover deep seated physical and emotional blockages.  These blockages must be dealt with in order for us to let go of that baggage we hold deep within our bodies and minds.  This can be extremely uncomfortable both physically and mentally and this is often the point where people either choose to face themselves and dig deep, keep practicing but on a very surface level, or walk away from this yoga altogether.  In this workshop, we will learn how to deal with the discomfort we face in our yoga asana practice.  Muscles, bones and nerves, emotional scars, fears and hurts...they all come to the surface with daily asana practice.  Join Krista in a discussion about deconstruction before reconstruction.  Suitable for all levels.

Friday, November 10, 2017    12pm - 2pm

Investment:  $45

Ground It Down, Twist It Out

A phenomenal and eye opening session of all levels of practitioners.  Once we can truly root and stabilize the body we can take any twist infinitely deeper in asana practice.  Spend the afternoon with Krista exploring how to better stabilize the body through the hands, feet and pelvis, which then allows us to tap into opposing forces as we ground down and lift and twist up and out.  You will be truly amazed how much deeper you can take any of your twists once you can safely, steadily, and strongly root your body and your mind.

Saturday, November 11, 201712pm - 2pm

Investment $45

Digging Deep Into Backbends

Spend the afternoon with Krista digging deep into your waist, your back, and your heart.  Understanding the emotional and physiological connection to back-bending can help you infinitely deepen your physical understanding of back-bending.  Utilizing various back bends from the Ashtanga series, we will explore the use of the waist, the heart and the spine in back bends and look into how emotions help or hinder our growth.  Leave this session with a new found love of back bends, a new appreciation of our own "perceived" limitations, and tools to take your practice to a new level.  Suitable for all levels.

w/Laura Gorham-Huon

Jump forward from down dog, jump back to Chaturanga from standing, jump through to seated, jump back to Chaturanga from seated..... the "jump" list goes on (and is it really jumping???)!

This workshop is geared toward helping the student understand the importance of transitions in the Ashtanga method, and learn to establish techniques and methods necessary to eventually master these floating transitions. We will review and break down how to approach jumping forward from down dog and jumping back from standing, jumping through to seated and back from seated, and more of the lesser known transitions in the primary and second series of Ashtanga Yoga.   Suited for all levels, Laura will teach you how to develop and grow into these transitions wherever you are at in your practice.  Be prepared to sweat as she reviews stretches and strengthening exercises, and challenges you to find your inner strength and courage to lift "up" as you move through your practice.

It's time to lift up yogis!
