Beginner's Mysore Workshop Series

Curious about Mysore class?  Want to try it but feeling a bit nervous about it?  Don't' know the series?
 
Whether you are completely new to Ashtanga Yoga, or are familiar with the method through led classes, if you are interested in learning more about the Mysore program and taking your yoga practice to the next level, this workshop series will be a great fit for you!
 
Mysore is the traditional style in which Ashtanga Yoga is taught.  Students practice at their own pace in a group setting and the teacher walks around and provides verbal instruction and physical assists where needed.  Mysore teaches you how to develop a personal practice and go deeper than you ever would in a led class.  This workshop series is designed to introduce you to this method of practice.   You do NOT need to know ANY of the sequencing to take this workshop, or to start practicing Mysore style.  That is where we come in to teach you!

This workshop will be 1.5 hours on Wednesday evenings for 3 weeks.  The first evening of this workshop series we will discuss the Mysore method history, origins, practice, and answer any questions you may have.  We will then delve into the Sun Salutations of Ashtanga Yoga, and practice them Mysore style.
 
The second evening, we will break down the standing sequence posture by posture and review the flow of the standing sequence in Ashtanga Yoga.  We will then practice them Mysore style, with cheat sheets in hand!
 
The third evening, hopefully you will have done some studying!  We will review the last 3 closing postures of Ashtanga Yoga, then we will put it all together Mysore style.   This class will be an opportunity for you to apply what you have learned, in a setting with other beginners, so you will feel completely comfortable with the "newness" of not being "led" through a yoga class!  Don't worry, we will still let you use the cheat sheet for this class, but hope that you will be interested enough after the first 2 evenings to study and prepare for the last one.
 
By the time you have completed this workshop series, you will have a strong understanding of the Mysore method, a foundation to build upon, and be ready to move into the regular Mysore program!
 
This workshop is open to any yoga student, new to The Shala or current!
