Most people approach backbends by trying to go deeper, chasing a certain shape before building the strength and awareness to hold it.

This workshop challenges that pattern.

You’ll learn how to stabilize your foundation, engage the right muscle groups, and use your breath to move with precision instead of momentum. By the end, you’ll understand how to move deeper because of strength, not in spite of it, and you will leave feeling more in command of your backbends.

This workshops is best for students with prior yoga experience.

Workshop is offered in the studio and live online via Zoom. All participants get access to the workshop recording until February 6, 2026. You can rewatch as many times as you like.

Marla Tortorice, 200 RYT, has been a vinyasa-based practitioner since 2018, but, looking for more, found a home in Ashtanga during the summer of 2022. Marla approaches her teaching the same way she approaches her practice—a daily search for both effort and ease. Asking more of yourself, finding your edge, but at the same time moving from a place of softness and surrender.
