2-Week Ashtanga Immersion

  • The Shala of Pittsburgh Ashtanga Yoga (map)

Take a deep dive into the ashtanga yoga method.

What to expect:

  • Create a practice plan with Marla and stick to it: Commit to practicing in morning Mysore class, 8:15am-10am, on Tuesdays and Thursdays and on Sunday, Ashtanga Full Primary, 8:30am-10am.

  • On Tuesdays and Thursdays, prior to Mysore class, 7:45am-8:15am, Marla will highlight Core Ashtanga Principals including: Ujjayi breathing, Dristi, Bandhas, memorizing the sequence, learning Sanskrit names, Opening Mantra, Closing Mantra, etc.. The idea is 30 minutes of focused learning to then immediately apply to your practice.

  • Level up: If you practice three times a week, stretch that five days a week or add Ashtanga Half Primary class. See what happens (while also making sure it’s something you can realistically achieve).

  • If there is a specific area(s) that you would like to focus on over the immersion, communicate this with your teacher. Maybe you want to memorize the sequence, focus on deeper, even breathing, or see progress with a particular pose.

  • Bonus: Keep a practice journal. Students will be encouraged to spend 15 minutes a day writing about their practice. Your notes will be private and for your use only.

Benefits:

  • Only through a consistent, regular practice can you build strength, flexibility, and a deeper understanding of your body.

  • Practice with fellow students and soak up their energy!

  • Work with a teacher who’s focused on your goals for a set time.

  • Commit to your own practice.

Beginners and new students are welcome and encouraged. This is a great opportunity to start your ashtanga yoga practice.

Two-Week Immersion - Pricing $100 ($60 for Shala Members).

Pricing includes bi-weekly Core Ashtanga Principal classes, Mysore class on Tuesday and Thursday, Ashtanga Full Primary on Sundays and all other studio classes during the Immersion.

Students who do not wish to participate in the full immersion can take individual Mysore, Ashtanga Half Primary and Ashtanga Primary classes at regular class pricing.
